How to Remotely Monitor Your Home With an IP Webcam

There are some nice benefits from having an always on webcam that you can operate remotely. You can now remotely monitor your home from anywhere there is a fast internet connection. Imagine watching your pets play at home or seeing if the babysitter or house cleaner is being honest by watching them from work.

IP webcams have a dedicated address that you type in on a remote computer, along with a password, to view what is going on in your home.

Determine which features in an IP webcam you need. New models from makers such as Panasonic have features such as pan and tilt, zoom, two way audio with a microphone and speaker and more.

Some models are weatherproof and wireless for mounting outside.
Imagine being at work and being able to scan your back yard and see your pets or bird feeder and hear the audio. You can even talk to your dog with an attached speaker.

Choose one that you can afford and install it according to the manufacturers instructions. IP webcams for your home cost from around $200 to over $500 with specialized features. The ones with two way audio or wireless capability cost more.
For home monitoring webcams to work you need an always on internet connection such as DSL or Cable.

If it is a wired model you will run an network cable from the camera to your router and install the setup software.
If it is a wireless model you will need a wireless 801.11 B or faster router and to install the setup software.
Some models allow you to set a motion sensor feature and record any movement in the home to an SD memory card. This is handy as a security feature. Keep your webcam secure by enabling all of the security features and by not giving out the password to anyone.

Cheers.
